DANIEL NOBOA IS ECUADOR’S NEW PRESIDENT

The president of the National Electoral Council (CNE) of Ecuador, Diana Atamaint, said in a national chain that Daniel Noboa Azin won the ballot in Ecuador.

“The result is irreversible,” he said when the vote count was over 90%.

At 23:55 on Sunday, October 15, 2023, the official results (which are available at www.cne.gob.ec) indicated that with 95.68% of the ballots counted, Daniel Noboa, of the ADN party, obtained 52.12% of the votes, compared to his rival Luisa Gonzalez, of the Citizen Revolution, who obtained 47.88% of the popular support.

Before Atamaint proclaimed Noboa’s virtual victory (which must be made official when 100% of the vote count is completed), Gonzalez publicly accepted his defeat. In a conciliatory speech from Quito, he congratulated Noboa and even offered the support of his party, which will be the majority party in the National Assembly, to issue laws that seek to improve the living conditions of Ecuadorians.

After Atamaint’s pronouncement, Noboa addressed the country in a brief speech. He pronounced it from Olón, a commune on the Ecuadorian Coast.

The president-elect said that “he is ready to return the smile to the citizenry, as well as employment, tranquility and progress to a country that has everything to be a world example.”

“Today we close the stage of the campaign and tomorrow we begin to work for a country that has been hit by corruption, violence and hatred.”

On Tuesday, a meeting is agreed at the Government Palace of Ecuador between President Guillermo Lasso and Noboa. It will be the beginning of an orderly transition, according to Lasso, who also congratulated the winner of the elections.
