SURPRISE!: MASSA PREVAILS AND GOES TO THE SECOND ROUND WITH MILEI

In the bunker of Javier Milei, the candidate for the Presidency of Argentina for Freedom Advance, caution reigned. His expectations were not only to win the first round but to reach figures that made a second one unnecessary. But, the election results that have been announced on the night of October 22, 2023, mark something very different.

That caution experienced in the Hotel Libertador, in the center of Buenos Aires, contrasts with the festive atmosphere in the Chacarita neighborhood, where the headquarters of Unión por la Patria, the party of the ruling Sergio Massa, is located. Reasons they have.

When the count of the votes has already reached 92.37%, Massa has reached 36.37% of the preferences, which puts him ahead of Milei, who obtains 30.15%, and Patricia Bullrich, of Juntos por el Cambio, who reaches 23.83%. Much further away are Juan Schiaretti, from Hacemos por Nuestro País, with 6.95%, and Myriam Bregman, from FIT-U, with 2.67%.

Massa had finished in third place in the Simultaneous Open and Mandatory Primary elections (PASO), held on August 13. In them, the population defines who will represent the parties in the first round.

On that occasion, Massa had obtained 28.88% of support. Milei had been the winner, with 31.60%, and Bullrich second, with 29.64%.

Milei has obtained a percentage similar to what he reached in the PASO, while Massa went up by 7.49 percentage points and Bullrich went down 5.81.

Massa and Milei will compete for the Presidency in the second round, which will take place on November 19.
