EUROPEAN ELECTIONS: POLLS POINT TO A THREE-WAY TIE FOR THIRD PLACE BETWEEN LIBERALS AND THE TWO FAR-RIGHT GROUPS

By Aquí Europa

According to Election.de, the European People’s Party will win the June elections to the European Parliament, followed by the Socialists and Democrats, who cut the gap compared to the February polls. The third place is the most closely contested, as the liberals of Renew Europe, and the two far-right groups, ECR Reformists and Conservatives, and Democratic Identity, would win 86 seats.

According to current forecasts for the European Parliament elections, the parties of the right-wing populist ID group are losing support. Compared to February, they would win eight fewer seats and, with 86 seats, would now be on a par with the conservative ECR group and the liberal Renew Europe parties.

This means that the race for the third seat in the Strasbourg Parliament is currently wide open. The most important force remains the Christian Democratic faction of the European People’s Party. Former Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has just been named as the People’s leading candidate for the elections at the beginning of June.

In the new forecasts, the Social Democratic S&D group achieves a slight increase in seats compared to the current distribution and reduces the gap with the EPP to 29 seats.

ELECTION.DE POLL RESULTS:

– EPP: 171

– S&D: 142

– Renew liberals: 86

– ERC: 86

– ID: 86

– Greens – EFA: 51

– The Left: 39

– Non-attached: 59
