THE EUROPEAN UNION SUSPENDS MARKETING OF ASTRAZENECA'S COVID VACCINE

The European Commission has suspended the marketing of AstraZeneca’s Covid vaccine after the laboratory admitted for the first time that it “may, in very rare cases, cause TTS [thrombosis syndrome with thrombocytopenia].”
The measure will take effect from tomorrow, May 7, 2024, the Commission said today following a request from the drugmaker itself.
“At the request of the holder, the marketing authorization for the medicinal product ‘Vaxzevria – Vaccine COVID-19 (ChAdOx1-S [recombinant])’, which was granted by Decision C(2021) 698(final) of 29 January 2021, is withdrawn,” states the text signed by Sandra Gallina, director general for Health and Food Safety at the European Commission.
It is also clear from the text that AstraZeneca requested the withdrawal of its injection on March 5, however, it was not until this Monday, two months later, that this decision was taken. Thus, it will no longer be authorized in the European Union as of tomorrow, Tuesday, May 7.
This announcement coincides with the legal document submitted to the UK High Court admitting for the first time that its Covid 19 vaccine could cause side effects such as thrombosis in “very rare cases”. In fact, the pharmaceutical company is facing a class action lawsuit for which it could pay up to 100 million pounds in compensation, as there are several cases of deaths and serious injuries.
In Spain, the Spanish National Court admitted for the first time last February the claim of a citizen who, after being injected with AstraZeneca’s vaccine, began to suffer serious side effects. The relevant decision of the Eighth Section of the Contentious-Administrative Chamber opened a new avenue of complaint for thousands of citizens affected by vaccines.
The case of this affected person in Spain is not the only one. He is joined by another 16 pending claims managed by the lawyer Alberto Masiá. These are people affected with absolute or total incapacity after receiving the first jab from AstraZeneca. It should be remembered that in the middle of the vaccination campaign with AstraZeneca, the campaign was paralyzed for 15 days -from March 15 to the beginning of April- due to the side effects of the vaccine and the death of a 42-year-old teacher days after the inoculation. However, vaccination with AstraZeneca was resumed for essential workers “denying the seriousness” of the side effects and the “worrying” extent of the side effects.
