The Port Authority of Ferrol-San Cibrao, in Galicia-Spain, is promoting a project for the installation of renewable energy plants and the supply of electricity to companies linked to its activity.

The initiative involves an investment of at least 35 million euros over five years and has already been shortlisted by the Xunta to apply for the Just Transition Fund.

The project consists of building:

– A photovoltaic generation plant of 18 Mw;

– A green hydrogen production plant so that industry in the area can replace gray hydrogen.

– A wind power complex of 12 Mw

– A green steel production plant incorporating green hydrogen.

– A seawater treatment facility for hydrogen production

– A manufacturing plant for the fabrication of structures for floating offshore wind turbines.

– A specialized training center.

– A green hydrogen production plant for logistics and transportation, including a public dispensing point for trucks.

– A 1 MW photovoltaic plant installed on rooftops.

– Two facilities to power container carriers and cruise ships with green electricity.

The company Reganosa will act as system manager, while the Instituto Tecnológico de Galicia will carry out monitoring and intelligent control tasks.

Today at the CIS -Centro de Innovación e Servicios de Tecnoloxia e Deseño- of the Departmental City, the III Jornada Puerto Empresa was held, a meeting dedicated in this edition to the Decarbonization of the Energy System, which brought together 250 professionals and in which the President of the Xunta de Galicia, Alfonso Rueda; the Mayor of Ferrol, José Manuel Rey Varela; the President of the Port Authority Ferrol-San Cibrao, Francisco Barea Paz; European, national and regional experts, as well as local businessmen have participated.

Light for the future of Spain and Galicia in a fundamental sector; renewed energy for the economy of an area that has been punished for years; administrative commitment to streamline procedures and evidence of a business fabric, of which Reganosa, chaired by Roberto Tojeiro, is a good example; and assumption of all measures that respect sustainability.

Ferrol has found a new serious path for its future, an exciting route delimited by a very elaborate project that is linked to the economic vanguard, to the new demands of the European Union and that awaits the firm and effective commitment of the central government.

Ferrol, a city to live and invest in, in a privileged geographical enclave, with an avant-garde University, and an impressive labor force. The Port has been once again the dynamizing axis for Ferrolterra.
